Melissa Rosenberg to discuss Vampires with Stephen King

At this year's New Yorker Festival in New York City, Twilight series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will be participating in a discussion panel on the subject of "vampires in popular culture" with none other than Stephen King.

Stephen King has written vampire lore novels before, including Salem's Lot, and, of course, Melissa Rosenberg has written the screenplays for Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

So, in other words, they both have experience in the vampire pop culture field.

Of course, most Twilight fans are hard-pressed to forget Stephen King's words about Stephenie Meyer, so there is bound to be a bit of dismay over the coupling involved for this panel.

It should be interesting - understatement - to hear how the two approach the issue as it is inevitable that the Twilight series will come up during those discussions. One has to wonder whether Stephen King will be deferential to the Saga's success and popularity, or if he will dismiss the Saga altogether and focus on other works of vampire fiction.
